ELĪNA ŠIMKUS SOLO CONCERT “WAR. PEACE. LOVE.”
In the historical hall of CFAC “Mazā Ģilde”, the emotionally rich concert “War. Peace. Love.” will take place, featuring soprano Elīna Šimkus and the baroque orchestra Collegium Musicum Riga under the direction of conductor Māris Kupčs, inviting the audience on a musical journey through the world of 18th-century baroque opera.
This concert program reveals the contradictions of the human soul—between unrest and harmony, passion and restraint, strength and fragility. Baroque composers often combined dramatic musical tension with refined rhetoric, and these works provide insight into both the symbolism of historical texts and the emotional intensity of the era. The concert will feature vivid arias reflecting the turmoil of the warrior, the peace of the soul, as well as the power of love and its dramatic transformations.
The soloist of the evening, Elīna Šimkus, is a laureate of the VII International Klaudia Taev Competition and one of Latvia’s most prominent opera singers in the baroque and early classical repertoire. Foreign critics describe her voice as “brightly resonant, with a beautiful cantilena and a strikingly gorgeous upper register,” as well as “energetic, musical, and flexible”—praise that attests to her mastery of vocal technique and style. Elīna’s career includes significant roles in European opera houses, collaborations with leading early music performers, and a rich large-scale repertoire—from Bach, Vivaldi, and Handel to Mozart and Pergolesi. The singer has a particular affinity for baroque and early classical style, through which she reveals the precision of musical rhetoric, dramaturgical depth, and an expressive stage presence.
The concert features Collegium Musicum Riga, the leading professional baroque orchestra in the Baltic States, which engages exclusively in historically informed performance practice and regularly collaborates with top European early music soloists. The orchestra’s artistic director, Māris Kupčs, is one of the most renowned baroque music conductors in the Baltics, whose approach stands out for its meticulous sense of style, musical precision, and strong dramaturgical vision.
This evening will be a special experience for anyone wishing to feel the power of baroque music—emotionally, intellectually, and aesthetically.
