On 18 October at 18.00, the Grand Hall of KTMC “Mazā ģilde” invites admirers of the talent of the outstanding Latvian conductor and composer Leonīds Vīgners, choristers, musicians and listeners to the concert “Vīgner’s Love” – both those who remember the Maestro and young people who are only just beginning their journey in song and music, for whom the Maestro showed particular interest and care.

The anniversary musical celebration will feature two choirs – “Mūza”, founded by the Maestro himself in 1949, and “Dižmuklājs”, a reunion of the original members of the choir “Muklājs”, founded in 1989. The concert’s artistic director is Didzis Kauliņš, a former student of Leonīds Vīgners and researcher of his life, with Artūrs Plaudis as conductor.

The evening will offer the audience rarely performed original works, treasured folk songs and an opportunity for new stars to shine, including pianist Evelīna Jēkabsone and cellist Maksims Skibickis. Audience favourites Evita Zālīte and Niks Freimanis will perform alongside Rūta Pāvulēna, a young singer from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. Poet Andris Akmentiņš will provide the texts, while video artist Roberts Rubīns will create the stage installation.

As we explore the many layers of Leonīds Vīgners’ life, love will always be found at its heart. Beyond the stream of witty and sharp remarks, many of which have been attributed to Vīgners, other
