Women’s Vocal Ensemble “Vilcenes”

Women’s Folklore Group “Vilcenes” was founded in 1995. Over the years, the group has performed throughout Latvia and has participated in the Baltica International Folklore Festival and the Latvian Song and Dance Festival.

“Vilcenes” has represented Latvia at EXPO 2000 in Hanover, Germany, and at the Central and Eastern European Countries’ Cultural and Entertainment Expo in Tbilisi, Georgia. The group has also shared its knowledge of Latvian traditions, cultural heritage, seasonal celebrations, and family customs with audiences in France, Belgium, Lithuania, and Estonia.

The repertoire of “Vilcenes” is based on authentic folk songs and melodies collected from traditional singers across Latvia’s different cultural regions. Although the group’s membership has changed over the years, its mission has remained the same—to preserve, explore, and pass on the wisdom, traditions, and feminine heritage that have been handed down through generations, sustaining the Latvian people through both challenging and prosperous times.
